Minutes of a Meeting of the SPG 20th April 2017
We convened at the Gosforth Hotel at 8pm. Those present, in round the table order, were Adrian Morley, (Kath Wright), Chris Wright, David Robinson, Brian Angus, Maureen Angus and Mary-Clare Robinson.
Apologies were received from Yvonne and James Henry (who were on the “Escape de Loch Ness” cycle run, a gruelling event apparently), Phil and Ros Sloan (Phil was public speaking on Biobanking), David Appleton (who had a prior dinner arrangement) and Cath Ashcroft on behalf of Tom. Cath says that Tom is home from hospital and getting about well, now with a Zimmer Frame, but is not well enough to attend.
The usual wide ranging discussions took place. A notable theme was the artistic (painting) activities of Adrian and Mary-Clare. Adrian continues to attend the studios of Enrico Azocar. Painting of the human form was discussed and the unique and ancient connection between Leonardo da Vinci and Medicine (anatomy; physiology and pathology; apparently he carried out 30 PMs and was the first to describe atherosclerosis, writers note). His anatomic drawings are superb and must have been informed by his dissections. Mary-Clare said she was now attending painting classes and presented two examples of her work, a landscape and a country scene. Members were most impressed. Her present technique is oil paint applied by palette knife. Mary-Clare has kindly provided a picture from her previous works: see below.
Kath Wright arrived late as she had been attending a meeting with her publisher to discuss publicising her new book “With the End in Mind”, publisher Harper Collins. Publication has been advanced for reasons of competition. She will be involved in radio and TV interviews, newspaper interviews and perhaps book signings.
SPRING DINNER The time window for the date of the next meeting has been chosen as between Monday 22nd May and Friday 26th May. After discussion considering a number of options, we chose Havelli’s Indian Restaurant on the Broadway, Darras Hall. Can members please let Brian know which dates are suitable for themselves and or partners so that Chris can make the booking.
Members enjoyed a number of beverages including gin and tonics and the usual “Workie Ticket” speciality beer. Victuals included bacon rolls, and 3 members chose the small English Breakfast. This comprises 2 sausages, 2 eggs, 2 large potato fritters, bacon (1 slice), toast (1 slice) and beans. Small?
The meeting closed at 10.15pm.
