Minutes of a Meeting of the SPG held at Twin Farms Gastro Pub in Kenton on Wednesday 20th September 2017
The Meeting convened at 8pm. Those present in round the table order were Adrian Morley, Maureen Angus, Mary-Claire Robinson, David Appleton, David Robinson, Brian Angus, Kathleen Ashcroft, Tom Ashcroft and Margaret Ashcroft. Apologies were received from Chris and Kath Wright (Chris is ringing birds in Norway) and from James and Yvonne Henry (James is very busy with work).
Members were particularly pleased to welcome Tom and Margaret with Catherine as they had missed a few meetings due to their house move. Tom said the move had been a success with a ground floor apartment found to be much more manageable than a large three storey town home. They have been in their new home for 1 year.
Adrian announced that Anthony Gormley had become a near neighbour in Hexham; the distinguished artist is likely to have another so close for advice. Mr Gormley is setting up an art related business next to Adrian’s in Hexham. He has taken over a building to which extensive refurbishment is under way.
Members were astonished to learn of the incredible drive and energy exhibited by Mary-Clare. The weekend following the meeting is to be occupied by running a large vegetable show for the allotment society, complete with a raffle (everyone will get a prize!). This whilst spending much time looking after grandchildren. Presumably David is helping with all this.
The autumn dinner was discussed and it was agreed that it should be held the week commencing Monday 23rd October. David recommended a cafe/bar called McKenna’s at the Great North Stage. Members all agreed. When this minute is sent out, this note taker will request members’ availability. David has suggested we try to book the “upper room”.
Various beverages were consumed. The most popular of the night called Big Lamp, made by a local brewery of the same name. Brian thought this was excellent. The food was excellent and the service too. After a convivial evening we departed around 10 pm.
