Minutes of a Meeting of the SPG on Thursday 10th May 2018 at Twin Farms, Kenton
The meeting commenced at 8pm. Those present, in round the table order were, Chris Wright, Kath Mannix, David Appleton, James Henry, David Robinson, Maureen Angus, Mary-Clare Robinson, Adrian Morley and Brian Angus. Apologies were received from Dr Sykes only.
.
A major topic of conversation was Kath’s success in being short listed for the Welcome Book Prize (final six) , for her acclaimed book “With the End in Mind.” The winner was Mark O’Connell with his book “To be a Machine.” Kath graciously signed copies of her book, taken to the meeting by members. Kath has been travelling and lecturing widely, not just promoting her book, but the central theme it presents; she ends her introduction by saying “It’s time to talk about dying”. At the time of writing this minute (10 May), she is about to embark on an extensive lecture tour countrywide.

Of course many other topics were discussed; erstwhile colleagues, developments in pathology over the years, and the joys of childcare for example.
The venue for the spring Dinner was discussed and there was near unanimous agreement on the Rat at Anick, near Hexham. Members who had eaten there recently thought the food was great. The time chosen was the week commencing 11th June 2018. Brian agreed to canvas members for availability, and Adrian said he would address making the booking.
Fine speciality ales and other beverages were consumed. The food served in the view of this recorder was excellent; of note was a fine grilled lambs liver dish; all plates were cleared.
The meeting closed around 10pm, after a very pleasant evening.
