Minutes of a Meeting of the SPG held on Monday 16th January 2017 at the Gosforth Hotel
The meeting was convened at 8pm and members wished each other a Happy New Year. Those present were (in round the table order) James Henry, David Robinson, Maureen Angus, Mary-Clare Robinson, David Appleton, Adrian Morley and Brian Angus. Apologies were received from Chris and Kath Wright who had a pressing prior arrangement for the evening, and from Tom and Catherine Ashcroft.
Members learned that Tom had been admitted to the RVI with a back problem and was awaiting transfer to the Freeman for further investigation. Members once again wished him a speedy recovery, and perhaps Catherine can convey this.
As usual the range of topics was wide, from the Rabbi, author and painter Chaim Potok, current politics (inauguration week for Donald Trump), to Fox Hunting. Brian asked David Robinson whether foxes were ever accidently unearthed by the hounds during the now fox friendly pastime. David said he had been banned from hunting by Mary-Clare, but ventured interesting observations on the cunning of the fox. For example on one hunt the fox, some way from the pursuing hounds, doubled back towards the huntsmen and spent a minute or two resting beneath his horse before trotting off to freedom. (Hounds have poor eyesight apparently)
English Breakfast and Bacon Rolls were consumed along with Speciality Ales and other beverages.
The meeting closed at 10.15 pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 14th February. The usual “gentle reminder” will be sent.
