Minutes of the Meeting of the SPG held on Thursday 25th May 2017
A meeting of the SPG was held at Haveli’s Indian Restaurant at 8pm.
Those present in round the table order were David Robinson, Chris Wright, James Henry, David Appleton, Kath Wright, Phil Sloan, Ros Sloan, Maureen Angus, Mary-Claire Robinson, Adrian Morley, Judy Sunter and Brian Angus. Apologies were received from Cath Ashcroft on behalf of her dad Tom, who is getting around after his recent hospital admission, but presently unable to attend. Yvonne Henry sent her apologies citing a prior arrangement (the last meeting of the year of her Scottish Country Dancing Club)
Members assembled from 7.30 pm until a little after. Soon we were seated at a longitudinal table near the window looking onto the Broadway, six on each side and this guided the conversation; three groups, one at each end and one in the middle. This did not impede lively discourse.
At Brian’s end he, David and Judy discussed grandchildren and Land Rovers, and Chris said he had been out from 7am looking after wild birds, but complained that Kath had not applied him with enough sun cream; it was the hottest and sunniest day of the year. Presumably he got sunburnt. Judy disclosed the sad demise of a treasured foal, the offspring of a previous pet horse. This was obviously very sad for Judy, but there is hope in her stable for new equine offspring. Conversation further along the table eluded this note maker.
The food and service were excellent. We commenced with Poppadoms, moved on to starters (eg Bhajis) then to mains; we chose bespoke dishes rather than the available banquets. Brian noted that James had most of the leg of some hapless beast which looked delicious, but which would have fed a large family for some time. It all looked and tasted great.
Around 10.15 pm we got ready to depart. Adrian approached Brian with a business card introducing a website connecting to a display of his art work mainly in Pastel and Acrylic; the front (see foot of this minute) and back were tastefully decorated by some of his works. The website address is Adriart.uk. This is beautifully presented and definitely worth viewing. Many of the fine paintings are for sale. On the reverse was a magnetic strip which Adrian said indicated that the card could be used as a credit card and this assertion was backed up enthusiastically David Appleton. Brian, having had a couple of house reds (French) fell for this and asked Adrian where he could get a PIN. We then departed , Chris and Kath on foot, seen starting to walk home disappearing into the twilight (they live less than a mile from the restaurant).
The next meeting will be an ordinary meeting held in the Gosforth Hotel on Mon July 3rd at 8pm as usual. The usual Gentle Reminder will be sent.
