SPG Feb 14 2017
Gosforth Hotel
Members arrived early enough to occupy the much sought-after quiet corner away from the bar. In attendance were David Appleton, Adrian Morley, Mary-Clare and David Robinson, Chris Wright, Maureen Angus, Phil Sloan and James Henry. Apologies had been received from Brian Angus and Tom Ashcroft, both of whom indisposed, and members expressed wishes for their speedy recovery. Drinks rounds were not surprisingly dominated by Mordue Brewery’s fine ‘Workie Ticket’ (although sad to say, their equally impressive ‘Radgie Gadgie’ is not currently available), and a variety of tasty (but frankly unhealthy) meals and snacks were consumed. Early conversation was dominated by parochial medical political matters, particularly the current shenanigans amongst the upper echelons of the local trust, generating much wild speculation and heat but, it has to be admitted, little light. The usual wide-ranging chat followed, touching on subjects as varied as classic cars (including the unlikely three wheeled Morgan), overcharging by Tescos, the extraordinary dress sense of Michael Portillo, and an alarming incident in Australia involving one of Mary-Clare’s relatives and an opossum. It now being 10p.m., members bid each other a fond farewell until the March meeting.
