Minutes of the SPG Autumn Dinner held on Thursday 31st October 2019 at the Valley Junction Indian restaurant, starting at 8pm In attendance: David and Mary Robinson, Maureen Angus, Adrian Morley, Judy Sunter, Chris and Kath Wright Apologies: received from Brian Angus, Yvonne & James Henry, Phil & Ros Sloan (new grandchild imminent), Cath & Margaret Ashcroft The party was smaller than expected since, due to an unfortunate breakdown in communications, arrangements to collect David Appleton went awry, and he was already preparing a meal at home by the time apologetic contact was made. Suitably chastened, members tucked in to a variety of delicious main courses including chicken shashlik, lamb biryani and the obligatory tandoori chicken. Conversation was as usual eclectic, with topics ranging from choral singing (Mary was about to take part in a performance of Fauré’s Requiem), Adrian’s recent art exhibition in Hexham, and the engravings of Thomas Bewick, to the attractions of Naples (recently visited by Chris) and Lyon (a favourite of Adrian’s), the advantages of electric bikes, and current intrigues down on Mary’s allotment. Having rubbed ourselves down with the thoughtfully provided hot towels, the party chose 5th December as the provisional date for the next meeting, and members headed for home at about 10.30 p.m. Chris Wright
